A few weeks ago, I was watching a vlog of the YouTube sensation, Lilly Singh aka iiSuperwomanii. Lilly calls the place of happiness, Unicorn Island and that is why, I call her the Queen of the Unicorns. However, what caught my attention was her announcement that she would visit Mumbai in March for the renowned YouTube Fanfest.
However, I realized I wouldn’t be able to attend the Fanfest, because the timings clashed with my classes at St Pauls Institute of Communication Education. Much to my luck, our Entertainment Journalism professor, Rajeev Masand happened to mention in passing an interview with Lilly.
With a few calls and messages, it was confirmed that along with Diksha Punjabi and Cecilia Dsouza, I would be able to meet my role model. It felt surreal, because I honestly felt I would never get to meet her.
March 24, was the day we were scheduled to meet Lilly in her hotel, Four Seasons at Lower Parel. Excited and anxiously we waited in the lobby of the five star hotel for our turn to meet her. In half an hour, we were asked to come up to the sixth floor, where Lilly was doing some interviews. A journalist from Business Standard was interviewing her at the time, and we waited outside the door, our hearts in our mouths.

Nevertheless, when the time finally came to meet her, she was so humble. She never assumed we were there to simply meet her. It was only after her PR person told her we were fans, did she welcome us with a warm hug. She also commented on my wallpaper which was a caricature of her, done by her close friend Inquisitive Illustration.
I was so tongue tied at how real she was. She is exactly what she is, in her videos. A cool cap, her unicorn slippers and the Superwoman ring she wears, is what I imagined her to be.
After signing my autographs, she offered to take pictures with us. Also, before we could meet her, I read some of her tweets, where she expressed how tired she was. And by the time we met her, she was through with her 12th interview of the day. But her tiredness never stopped her from being warm and appreciative of our efforts to meet her, which is something I admire about iiSuperwomanii.
Lilly Singh announced her World Tour starting in May. She’s coming back to our city on 22nd May and I hope to meet her again! One can never get enough, can they?
